Me: "Are all those girls beautiful?"
Caroline: "Yes."
Me: "Do you have to look like those girls to be beautiful?"
Caroline and Loretta (emphatically): "NO!"
Me: "What makes you truly beautiful?"
Loretta: "What's inside!" and Caroline at the same time: "Our insides!"
So then we started talking about how it's our differences and imperfections that make us unique and beautiful and I asked for examples.
Caroline jumped right in, excitedly, with the song lyrics "I love all your curves and your edges, all your perfect imperfections." She's so good at making connections.
So, I asked, "What are perfect imperfections?"
Here are some of the examples the kids came up with:
- Loretta's dent in her forehead
- Mom's crooked smile
- Dad's bigger nose
- Caroline's way of saying her "r"s
- Sam's right eye is just a little bit smaller than his left
How can you not love those perfect imperfections? I know I do!
